San Francisco - Google CEO Larry Page and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was asked to explain more about the practice of surveillance on the internet. They also have to explain them about the alleged involvement of the U.S. government server access.

"We understand the U.S. government and other governments need to take action for the safety of its citizens, including if it should conduct surveillance," Larry Page said in a blog posting.

"But the level of secrecy surrounding the current legal procedures, undermining the freedoms we cherish," he added, as quoted by AFP on Monday (10/06/2013).

The attitude is characterized by specific personal stamp affixing Google which basically stated objection if U.S. intelligence 'mine' data from the server. Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg did the same thing the day after posting a statement expressing the Page.

"Facebook is not and will never be part of a program that allows the U.S. government or other state governments have direct access to our servers," he said.

"We never received a request from the government or any court order for access to information or metadata in bulk. If we are asked, we will oppose it aggressively," said Zuckerberg.

Google, Facebook and other tech companies vehemently denied that they knowingly took part in a secret program called PRISM. As is known, the program in providing access to the National Security Agency (NSA) and FBI to their server.

"We do not follow any program that can provide direct access to the U.S. government or another government to our servers," said Page.

PRISM began in 2007 and evolved into the most productive programs in a top-secret daily intelligence briefing U.S. President Barack Obama. A report said a number of Silicon Valley companies involved program include Apple, AOL, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, PalTalk, Skype, Yahoo and YouTube.
